Bitcoin Price Today: BTC Holds $82K Despite ETF Outflows
Bitcoin is trading near $83,000 on 19 October 2026. We look at ETF outflows, hot US inflation, the Fed meeting and the price levels traders watch.

Bitcoin is trading around $82,900 on Monday 19 October, a little above the $82,000 level buyers have defended in recent days. It touched more than $87,000 in early October, so the market has given back some of that move. Ethereum is changing hands near $2,436 and XRP is just over $1.31.
The prices in this paragraph come from a market report published this morning. Crypto moves all day, so use the live chart further down for the current number.
Inflation is still running hot
The main weight on risk assets right now is the US inflation report. The Bureau of Labor Statistics published September’s Consumer Price Index on 14 October. Prices rose 0.6% in the month and 3.7% over the past 12 months. Strip out food and energy and the yearly figure is 2.6%. Energy is the problem: it is up 20.4% on the year.
That matters for bitcoin because high inflation makes it harder for the Federal Reserve to ease. The Fed actually raised rates on 16 September, by a quarter point to a range of 3.75% to 4%.
The Fed meets next week
The next Federal Open Market Committee meeting is on 27 and 28 October. According to FXStreet’s report, traders put the odds of no change at about 85%. The same report says inflation above the Fed’s 2% goal is raising the chance of another increase in December. Those odds shift with every data release, so treat them as a snapshot.
Money is leaving the ETFs
US spot bitcoin ETFs saw about $229 million of net outflows through last Friday. Ether ETFs lost roughly $320 million, their third negative week in a row. XRP funds had a small $1.8 million outflow, which ended a 13-week run of inflows. One quiet week does not make a trend, and the report itself says as much about XRP.
The price levels traders are watching
For bitcoin, $82,000 is the first line. Under it, analysts point to the 50-day moving average near $80,600, then the 100-day near $77,100 and the 200-day near $76,000. On the upside, the early October high above $87,000 is the obvious ceiling.
The momentum readings are mixed. The relative strength index sits around 52, which is neutral, while the MACD indicator is still negative. In plain terms, the market is not stretched in either direction.
What about the “golden cross”?
You may have seen this phrase in headlines. A golden cross happens when a short-term average price (the 50-day) moves above a long-term one (the 200-day). Some traders read it as a sign of a lasting shift in momentum. CoinDesk reports that bitcoin confirmed its golden cross on 8 September and rose about 5% afterwards.
Now the signal is being watched on Strategy, the company that holds bitcoin on its balance sheet. CoinDesk says its stock could confirm a golden cross as soon as today. The same article is careful about how much weight to give it: across 19 golden crosses on Strategy’s stock since 1999, the shares were higher a year later only about half the time.
What to watch this week
- Whether bitcoin keeps closing above $82,000, or slips toward the 50-day average.
- ETF flow numbers at the end of the week.
- Any change in expectations for the 27 to 28 October Fed meeting.
- Oil prices and the news from the Middle East, which the market report links to the current mood.
